We examine the relationship between dissent in director elections and board effectiveness. In our analysis, we categorize reasons for dissenting in board votes into prior irresponsible behavior, lack of independence, lack of past attendance, and serving on multiple board seats. We find that having a director who faced dissent on a board of directors reduces board effectiveness, especially in cases involving inside directors who have prior irresponsible behavior on their records, inside directors who serve on multiple boards, and outside directors who lack independence. Moreover, having a director who faced dissent on a board is negatively associated with corporate value. We also find that having a nominating committee that is composed only of outside directors has a moderating effect on this negative association between dissent in director elections and board effectiveness(firm value). We find similar results in an analysis of proxyvoting advice offered by an advisory firm. Our results suggest the importance of incorporating a wider range of board-member characteristics beyond such commonly used measures as outside director ratios and gender diversity.

Sharing economy emerges as an attractive alternative to the traditional ownership-based economy. Just like other new successful initiatives in the marketplace, it is essential for sharing economy to induce continued usage from those consumers who have tried it out. This study postulates perceived usefulness and the sense of attachment as antecedents of psychological ownership and investigates whether these factors make meaningful influences upon one’s continued usage of a sharing economy service. Data collection was carried out by using self-reported survey method who had used carsharing services at least once within a previous year. Findings of the study were encouraging as consumers were found to perceive sharing economy in a positive way after using it. Both perceived usefulness and the sense attachment had a direct, positive effect on continuance intention of the carsharing service. In addition, both perceived usefulness and attachment had indirect influences on their continuance intention through the mediation of psychological ownership. Finally, psychological ownership is found to exert a strong, direct influence upon one’s continuance intention. These findings suggest that one’s intention to patron the sharing economy is founded upon both rational and emotional factors. Such findings of the study suggest meaningful implications for both academics and practitioners.

This study applies Structural Topic Modeling to explore the text data from corporate reviews of the recruitment platform describing employer brands and to investigate whether such data have meaningful differences between the employees who recommend their firms and those who do not. Specifically, we examine the text data on the satisfactory factors of companies as described by incumbent employees who recommend and do not recommend their firms. Topic modeling derives 30 topics, among which 22 are considered appropriate by using a critical review. These topics are labeled considering previous research on employer brands, and the highest percentage are categorized as ‘horizontal corporate culture’. Significant differences are identified between current employees who recommend and do not recommend their firms. Most of the extracted topics are similar to the variables that are previously used in literature. However, new topics are also derived from our studies. Finally, the implications of study findings are discussed.

In addition to technological development, the key to the success of personalized production is to increase customer acceptance by considering them as key strategic factors. However, there is a lack of attempts to approach smart factory from the end-user’s perspective, particularly with regard to personalized products that may be more expensive, of lower quality, and have lower customer service levels than existing products. These practical limitations of personalized products may be perceived as a risk by consumers. This study examines consumers’ perception of price, quality, and consumer service, as well as their preference for personalized products and types of customization. The results indicate that consumers’ willingness to pay a premium for personalized products was found, while their tolerance for quality reduction was extremely low, and their tolerance for service degradation was low. In addition, it was found that there was a preference for personalized products, and among the three customized types, option selection customized types were the most preferred. This study provides practical implications by analyzing realistic factors that companies should consider when supplying personalized products.

With the rapid development of the digital era, the trend in consumption of digital products has undergone tremendous change in recent years to a subscription-based streaming service. The success of subscription-based streaming services depends heavily on customers’ continuance usage. Multilateral perspectives are also required as antecedents of continuance usage. In consideration of the distinctive features of these services, this study adopts the dedication-constraint framework and develops a model of subscription-based streaming service continuance, which is assessed empirically using data collected from 315 actual users of music streaming services. Results indicate that subscription-based streaming service’s continuance intention is jointly determined by two mechanisms: perceived benefits (usefulness and enjoyment), and service-specific investments (personalization and learning), with the former playing a more central role. Perceived usefulness and enjoyment directly promote satisfaction, while service-specific investments in personalization and learning increase switching costs. Theoretical and practical implications and future research directions are subsequently discussed.

Prior research suggests that leader narcissism can undermine important subordinate outcomes, such as subordinate behavior and performance. However, these studies have exclusively focused on leader narcissism, neglecting to consider that subordinate narcissism should also be taken into account. Based on narcissism and similarity-attraction theory, we provide an integrated perspective and predict that narcissism (dis)similarity shapes leader-subordinate dynamics. Using a multi-source and multi-wave survey, 448 leader-subordinate dyads data (from 76 teams) supported our model: Polynomial regression and response surface analyses showed that similarity predicts counterproductive work behaviors (CWBs), but this effect is asymmetrical; CWBs are lower when leader-subordinate narcissism are similar low rather than high. On the other hand, dissimilarity predicts high CWBs, and this effect is also asymmetric; this positive effect is stronger when subordinate narcissism is higher (rather than lower) than leader narcissism. Finally, these effects of (dis)similarity on CWBs were found to be moderated by high and low team performance pressures. Overall, our study suggests that narcissism (dis)similarity affects leader-subordinate dynamics and subordinate CWBs. We discuss the theoretical and practical implications of these findings for designing functional leader-subordinate dyads in organizations.

This study explored the effects of push, pull, and mooring factors on the switching intention of an organization’s IT systems using a survey of 152 employees(hardware engineering, software engineering, information strategy planning) of the IT department. In this study, we adopt the PLS(partial least square) of the structural equation model for analyzing structural relationships of the switching intention of an organization’s IT systems toward the cloud. This study applies the push-pull-mooring model to empirically examines the three categories of antecedents for switching intention toward the cloud. First, our findings show that both push factors and pull factors have positive impacts on the switching intention toward the cloud. Also, mooring factors have negative impacts on the switching intention toward the cloud. Second, our findings show that the mediators have mediation effects. Third, our findings show the moderation effects of mooring factors.

We perform the empirical test after establishing a null hypothesis that related party transactions have no relation with the matching level. As a result of test, it is found that the high-proportion of related party transactions in both models increases the matching level. We also perform additional test to solve the problem of multicollinearity and autocorrelation that may appear in the empirical test models. According to these results, domestic related party transactions act as an incentive to raise the matching level, and it is judged that related party transactions have a positive (+) relation with the matching level. This indicates that domestic related party transactions are made as a means of propping, and as a result, related party transactions are increasing the matching level of related companies. This study contributes to presenting data that related party transactions can have a positive effect on the matching level in the results of mixed studies related to related party transactions. This study is the result of supporting the efficient transactions hypothesis among the conflicting theories related to related party transactions.

This study investigated whether the market response to replacement of CEO was significant according to the CEO structure and the ownership of CEO. The results of this study are as follows. First, as a result of analyzing the market response to the CEO’s structural change, a significant negative market response was showed before the event when it was changed from a co-CEO to solo CEO. Second, in case previous CEO’s performance was good, but CEO was replaced, it showed a significant negative market response. Finally, as a result of considering the CEO structure and ownership of CEO at the same time, there was no significant market response in most cases, but a significant positive market response was found when a solo CEO who owned more than 5% of the stock was replaced by a CEO who did not own more than 5%. This study contributes to providing evidence that market participants have an important understanding of the managerial structure.

A wealth of research on the field of social science has revealed the paramount importance of warmth. However, even though warmth can be divided into two different meanings, literature have shared the same term (i.e., warmth) when demonstrating them. Aiming to understand the power of warmth, this study first classifies warmth as perceptual and social warmth. The former indicates warmth by physical sense, for instance temperature, and the latter captures traits related to sincerity, friendliness, and being socially connected with others. After clarifying each term, the authors then review the recent research conducted within the last 20 years. Specifically, this study concentrates on the role of the two aspects of warmth as both influencing and influenced factors. Furthermore, it focuses on the interaction these warmth shows, and gives implication of warmth as a mediator. By examining from various angles and approaching the fundamental of perceptual warmth and social warmth, the current study aims to help readers comprehend warmth in total and provide novel insights for further research.
